The Weekly Watchlist, 9/24/25
Your weekly guide to cinema in Metro Detroit
Good morning film freaks,
It’s a great week for movies in Metro Detroit - there is a huge film festival this weekend, a new Paul Thomas Anderson film, and tons of fan favorites screening all over town. Here are some highlights:
The 6th Annual Black Film Festival runs Thursday through Sunday this week and includes 72 independent films from 30 countries, across four locations in Detroit - check out this interview with the founders of the festival to learn more
Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film One Battle After Another premieres this week, the State Theatre will host an advanced screening tomorrow, Thursday 9/25 - this is always a big event (for me) since he only releases films once every few years (and is my favorite director)
Two chances to see Francis Ford Coppola’s creative process (and nightmares) in MEGADOC at The Henry Ford and Hearts of Darkness at the Detroit Film Theater
If you’re a Sam Raimi fan, this is a great week for you - there are screenings of his films at UFO Film Club, the Michigan Theater, and the Historic Howell Theater - read on to find out more!
Support your local theaters, go out to a movie!
